National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA) is the first university established in the Balkan Peninsula and the region of the eastern Mediterranean. It currently consists of 31 departments and trains and educates more than 70,000 students. UoA is the leading academic and research Greek institution with a strong scientific focus in all aspects of sciences. The Department of Chemistry with 52 faculty members consists of seven laboratories. Every year, about 150 new undergraduate as well as 140 to 160 post-graduate students are admitted. It conducts research in all aspects of modern chemistry, including organic and materials chemistry, and occupies a high position in the ranking of the best chemistry departments worldwide. The Laboratory of Organic Chemistry consists of 9 faculty members, each leading an individual research group.
