Knight Scientific Ltd (KSL) is the sole world-wide manufacturer of the light-emitting protein Pholasin® which is exquisitely sensitive to free radicals. KSL’s ABEL® (Analysis By Emitted Light) kits using Pholasin® are used world-wide in research into oxidative stress. This rapidly growing field embraces research applications into over 150 free radical mediated diseases, including cancer, diabetes and heart disease. KSL was project leader of a UK Department of Health funded collaborative project for a point of care test for sexually transmitted diseases. The company has also managed a number of other collaborative research projects working with partners in human and veterinary medicine, in particular horses.
